Piano Year 1 (Minimum 6.5+)

$300.00

This is a 26-week course, from mid September-end of April.

Registration Opens June 25th

This level extends our pathway to music literacy and skills by learning to play the piano. Musikgarten Music Makers: At the Piano program teaches the children to play the songs they've been hearing, singing, moving to, and enjoying in earlier years.

Progressing on from our level of Around the World, this sixty-minute class follows a sequential, broad-based approach to building piano skills, including the ability to improvise, transpose, compose, play by ear, and to understand musical notation. Parents participate in the final fifteen minutes of class, but are also encouraged to attend the entire class as much as possible. Success in this remarkable program depends upon the support of an adult committed to working with the child during the first year.

The minimum age of 6.5 years for children enrolled in this group class is incredibly important. This age is to ensure the material presented in class is developmentally appropriate for your child, and is imperative in order for your child to feel successful and confident in learning their new instrument. It is recommended children who are 6 years-old who have not been in previous Musikgarten programs should start at the previous levels of Kindergarten Around the World or Around the World 2.

  • Monday, 4:00-5:00 p.m.

  • Tuesday, 3:15-4:15 p.m.

  • Thursday, 4:00-5:00 p.m.

Children will receive two music books for playing pieces, aural perception training, reading and writing, and theory work. Materials also include four recordings (CD plus digital download for each), rhythm, melody and harmony notation/reading games.

$300 per semester, which includes 13-week session. Please note: This program continues throughout the school year, with another fee of $300 required upon Winter/Spring Semester.
