Piano: Year 1 (Graduates of Semester 1)
Piano: Year 1
Registration for Piano is only available for children who have completed the Fall 2024 Session. Due to teacher availability, we are unable to accommodate new students until Summer 2025.
The required age of 6.5 years is to ensure the class is developmentally appropriate for your child, setting them up for success and confidence in the program. If your child doesn’t meet the minimum age requirement, or is brand new to music, check out our class offerings of Kindergarten Around the World. This level extends our pathway to music literacy and skills by learning to play the piano. Our Piano Year 1 program teaches the children to play the songs they've been hearing, singing, moving to, and enjoying in earlier years.
Progressing on from Around the World, this sixty-minute class follows a sequential, broad-based approach to building piano skills, including the ability to improvise, transpose, compose, play by ear, and to understand musical notation. Parents participate in the final fifteen minutes of class, but are also encouraged to attend the entire class as much as possible. Success in this remarkable program depends upon the support of an adult committed to working with the child during the first year.
Please select the same day that your child did in the Fall 2024 Session.
Monday, 3:30-4:30 p.m.
Tuesday, 3:15-4:15 p.m.
Thursday, 4:00-5:00 p.m.
Please note: This program continues throughout the school year, with another fee of $300 required upon Winter/Spring Semester. Each semester, children will receive two music books for playing pieces, aural perception training, reading and writing, and theory work. Materials also include four recordings (CD plus digital download for each), rhythm, melody and harmony notation/reading games.
